If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve been a massive fan of Caroline Hirons for years. Fun fact: I actually discovered her through a Zoella YouTube video way back when! Caroline was recommending the Pixi Glow Tonic, and that single video completely introduced me to the world of acid toning.
Ever since then, I’ve followed Caroline’s advice and bought practically every product she has recommended for my skin type. I have never regretted a single purchase.
So, it is probably no surprise that since she launched her own brand, Skin Rocks, I’ve been slowly making my way through the entire collection. Since Caroline is practically the person who invented the term “acid toning” (don’t quote me on that, but it feels true!), I knew I had to try her liquid exfoliators.
Today, I’m breaking down my thoughts on Skin Rocks The Gentle Acid.

What Is It?
The Gentle Acid is the most lightweight, gentle toner in the Skin Rocks collection. Here is how the brand describes it:
“This acid toner is gentle in delivery and powerful in results, working hard to deliver the power of exfoliation with minimal irritation. Powered by a blend of alpha-hydroxy and polyhydroxy acids (AHAs and PHA) and skin-conditioning ingredients… [it] visibly evens skin tone, reduces hyperpigmentation, minimises the appearance of visible pores and refines skin texture, all while respecting your skin barrier.”
Who Is It For?
This particular version is absolutely perfect for my skin type:
- Sensitive skin
- Dry skin
- Minimal texture or breakouts
If you have oily, spot-prone, or more mature skin—and you are already experienced with acids—Skin Rocks actually offers two other, stronger options. If you aren’t sure which one to pick, you can always take the quick skin quiz directly on the Skin Rocks website.
How I Use It In My Routine
I don’t use this every single day. Instead, I incorporate it into my evening routine every 2 to 3 nights.
- The Routine: If my skin is feeling extra congested, I will up it to every 2 nights. Otherwise, I stick to a strict 3-night rotation.
- The Golden Rule: On the nights I use this acid, I do not use my retinol serum. Pairing them together would be way too harsh for my sensitive skin. Instead, I layer it with a deeply hydrating serum, which works beautifully for me.
The Results: What It Did For My Skin
After testing it out, these are the main benefits I have noticed:
- ✨ Brighter skin: My complexion looks much more radiant and awake.
- 🧼 Less congestion: It keeps those tiny bumps and blocked pores at bay.
- 🌿 Faded hyperpigmentation: I’ve noticed a slight, steady improvement in my hyperigmentation
The Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?
Yes, absolutely.
Is it on the slightly pricier side compared to what I usually spend on acid toners? Yes. But because I only use it a few nights a week, one bottle lasts a really long time.
Finding an acid toner that is gentle enough for dry, sensitive skin—but still powerful enough to actually show results—is incredibly hard. In the past, other toners either did absolutely nothing for me, or completely stripped my skin barrier. This one hits the absolute sweet spot.
The only downside? Unlike many other products in the Skin Rocks line, this packaging is not refillable yet. Hopefully, that is something they change in the future!
Love
