What an amazing night! I recently went to see the incredibly talented Alex Warren at Manchester’s brand-new Co-op Live arena. To sum it up in one sentence: Alex was an absolute dream, but the venue itself? Well, that was a whole different story!
Here is the good, the bad, and the downright wild things that happened during my night out.
🪿 The Wild Beginning (Literally!)
The night kicked off with a massive delay just trying to get inside. The security queues took forever, which unfortunately meant a lot of fans missed the first few songs of the opening act.
But the queue did have one very unusual highlight! There was a sectioned-off area just outside the venue because a goose had made a nest right there. The eggs were actually hatching while we were waiting in line!
🏟️ The Venue: Great Snacks, Scary Stairs
Once inside, the Co-op Live was a bit of a mixed bag.
- The Good: The food was delicious and the staff were incredibly lovely and helpful. Yes, it was pricey, but that is standard for a massive arena!
- The Dangerous: The seating situation on the higher levels is genuinely terrifying. The aisles are incredibly narrow, and the stairs are so steep that I honestly don’t know how it passed health and safety inspections! Trying to navigate those steep drops with crowds of people felt downright dangerous.
🎸 Alex Warren: A Total Star
Thankfully, the moment Alex hit the stage, all the venue stress melted away. He was amazing! You can still tell he is quite new to playing these massive arenas. He kept looking up and around the stadium with pure awe, like he couldn’t quite believe this was his life. It was so endearing to watch!
He is also incredibly funny and brilliant with the crowd. At one point, he took a banana costume from someone in the audience and wore it to sing Carry You Home! He also brought out his famous buzzer and reset it just so two little kids in the crowd could have the chance to press it. Cue the collective awwws!
🚗 New Music Alert!
As a massive bonus, he treated us to a couple of unreleased tracks. My absolute favourite was a song called Passenger Side. It is so incredibly good! I already know that the second it drops on Spotify, it is going straight onto my driving playlist for a full-volume car sing-along.
The Final Verdict ⭐⭐⭐🎈
All in all, Alex Warren put on an unforgettable, heartwarming, and hilarious show. While the Co-op Live fell way short of my expectations with its slow entry times and scary, steep seating, the great food and fantastic performance saved the night. I’d see Alex again in a heartbeat—maybe just on the ground floor next time!
